Privacy Policy
Last Updated: May 22, 2025
Welcome to RISExSHINE!
This Privacy Policy describes how Rise & Shine Technology Inc. ("RISExSHINE," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects your personal information when you use our mobile application (the “App”), our website located at www.risexshine.com (the “Site”), and any related services we offer (collectively, the “Services”).
At RISExSHINE, trust and transparency are at the heart of everything we do. We are building a platform centered on genuine human connection and positive impact. This means we are deeply committed to protecting your privacy and providing you with a clear understanding of how your information is handled. We are actively taking steps to foster an authentic community by protecting against fake, malicious, and bot accounts, and by working to keep unauthorized AI-generated content off our platform. Our goal is to create a space where users can engage safely, creatively, and with confidence.
This Privacy Policy explains our practices in compliance with applicable privacy laws in Canada, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and British Columbia’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), and with consideration for key principles of privacy laws in other jurisdictions where our users may reside, such as the United States and the United Kingdom.
Our Services are intended for users aged thirteen (13) and older. Users under the age of thirteen (13) are strictly prohibited from using our Services. For users between the ages of thirteen (13) and the age of majority in their province or territory of residence (“Minor Users”), a parent or legal guardian must consent to our Terms of Service and this Privacy Policy on their behalf. Our practices concerning the personal information of Minor Users are further detailed in Section VIII ("Children's Privacy") below.
By accessing or using our Services, you (and your parent or legal guardian on your behalf, if you are a Minor User) acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to our collection, use, sharing, and protection of your personal information as described in this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Service. If you do not agree with these terms, please do not use our Services.
For any privacy-related questions or concerns, you can contact our Privacy Officer at contact@risexshine.com.
II. Information We Collect
This section describes the types of personal information we collect when you use our Services. For our Alpha launch, our data collection is focused on what is essential to provide and improve the initial Services and to ensure users meet our minimum age requirement. We are committed to the principle of data minimization. As we introduce new features, we may collect additional information; if so, we will update this Privacy Policy, provide specific notice, and obtain consent as required by applicable law.
(A) Information You Provide Directly to Us:
-
Account Registration Information: When you create a RISExSHINE account, we collect the following information:
-
First and Last Name: To help identify you within our system.
-
Email Address: To create and secure your account, communicate with you (as described in Section III: "How We Use Your Information"), and for account recovery purposes.
-
Password: To secure your account. This is stored in a hashed format and is not directly visible to us.
-
Date of Birth: We collect your date of birth solely to verify that you are at least thirteen (13) years of age and therefore eligible to use our Services. This information is not used for other profiling or analytical purposes by RISExSHINE at this stage. (Note on Consent for Minor Users: As stated in our Introduction and Terms of Service, if you are a Minor User (typically 13 to the age of majority in your jurisdiction), your parent or legal guardian must review and agree to this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Service on your behalf for you to use our Services. During our Alpha stage, we do not collect separate contact information from parents/guardians directly during the registration process but rely on the representation that this parental/guardian consent has been obtained.)
-
-
Communications with Us: When you contact us for support, to provide feedback, or for any other inquiries (e.g., by emailing contact@risexshine.com or through any future in-app support channels), we collect the information you provide in your communications. This includes your email address, the content of your message, any attachments you send, and any other information you choose to provide.
(B) Information We Collect Automatically When You Use the Services (Alpha Stage):
-
Usage Information / Activity Data: When you interact with our App during the Alpha stage, we collect information about your activity, which is linked to your account (and therefore to your email address and name). This information helps us understand how the App is being used and how we can improve it. This includes:
-
Content Interactions: Such as videos you view within the App.
-
Challenge Activity: Including challenges you start or complete, your scores, points you earn (if applicable in Alpha), and your progress within the Services.
-
Feature Interactions: Information about how you interact with different features and functionalities available in the Alpha version of the App. (Note: There are no public leaderboards or direct social integration features in the Alpha. Your individual activity data is not publicly displayed to other users. For any future features involving community rankings that display user information, or for features that use your activity for personalized content recommendations, we will provide specific notice and seek your opt-in consent before using your information in those ways, as further detailed in Section III: "How We Use Your Information").
-
-
Technical / Device Information Processed by RISExSHINE and Our Essential Service Providers: To enable the App to function on your device, for security purposes, for essential troubleshooting, and to understand basic usage patterns, certain technical information is automatically processed when you use our Services. While RISExSHINE minimizes its direct collection and use of data like IP addresses or specific OS versions for its own analytical purposes beyond what is necessary for the App's operation, such information is often inherently processed by the third-party services essential for our App's functionality and delivery. This automatically processed technical information includes:
-
Device Type/Model: The model of your mobile device.
-
App Version: The specific version of the RISExSHINE App you are using.
-
Crash Data: If the App crashes, information about the crash is collected (often by third-party crash reporting services) to help us diagnose and fix issues. This may include device state at the time of the crash and parts of log files.
-
IP Address: Your Internet Protocol address is processed by various service providers (as detailed below) for purposes such as delivering content to you (e.g., videos from our streaming provider, content from our CMS), routing your requests effectively, security (e.g., preventing abuse or Distributed Denial of Service attacks), and providing general, non-precise geographic location data (e.g., country/city for service localization or aggregated analytics).
-
Operating System (OS) Version: Information about your device's operating system is processed by some of our service providers for ensuring compatibility, troubleshooting, and optimizing service delivery.
-
Browser/User-Agent Information: For services accessed via web calls from the app or for backend logging by our hosting providers, browser or user-agent information may be processed.
-
-
Information Collected Via Our Third-Party Service Providers (including SDKs): We use a number of third-party services and their integrated Software Development Kits ("SDKs") or Application Programming Interfaces ("APIs") to provide, operate, analyze, and improve our Services. These third parties act as our service providers (or "data processors" under laws like UK GDPR) and process your personal information on our behalf and in accordance with our instructions and this Privacy Policy, or as necessary for them to provide their services to us. We select these providers carefully and require them to implement appropriate security measures and comply with applicable privacy laws.
The key third-party services we use in our Alpha, the main purposes they serve, the data they may process in connection with your use of RISExSHINE, and links to their privacy policies are listed below. We encourage you to review their privacy policies to understand their data practices:

(Usernames and social media tokens may be supported by Clerk if RISExSHINE implements these features in the future).
-
Clerk's Use of Data: Clerk collects telemetry data about its SDK's general product and feature usage to improve its own product but states this does not involve collecting information from end-users of RISExSHINE for Clerk's separate telemetry purposes.

-
Data Processed May Include: To deliver video and image content, Bunny.net processes system access information which includes end-user IP addresses, browser/user-agent information, app version, the item being accessed, and broad geographic region (country). Bunny.net states this data is aggregated for non-identifiable analytics on their end for their service improvement.

-
Data Processed May Include: When your App requests content from Contentstack's Content Delivery Network (CDN), the CDN processes your IP address and information about the content items being requested to efficiently route the request and for its own traffic analytics.
-
Privacy Policy: https://www.contentstack.com/legal/privacy
-
Data Storage Location (CMS Content, not user PII stored by RISExSHINE): North America (via AWS, as configured by RISExSHINE).
-
4. It is important to note that these third-party service providers have their own privacy policies and data security practices, which we do not control (beyond our contractual agreements with them requiring protection of data processed on our behalf).
(C) Information Related to Future Features (Not Collected in Alpha unless specified):
-
Profile Information (Future): In future versions, we may allow you to create a Username or add other voluntary information to a user profile. We will provide more information and seek consent if required at that time.
-
Information for Rewards (Future): Rewards are not part of the Alpha. When we introduce real-world rewards in later releases, we anticipate using mechanisms like QR codes sent to your registered email address or displayed within the App for you to redeem. We are committed to minimizing the personal information collected for reward fulfillment. If any additional personal information is required for a specific reward, we will provide specific notice and obtain your consent at that time.
-
Cookies and Similar Technologies on Our Website (Future): Our Site (www.risexshine.com) does not use non-essential cookies for tracking or analytics during the Alpha stage. In the future, we may implement cookies (e.g., from providers like Google Analytics) to analyze website traffic, understand how users interact with our Site (e.g., page views, heatmaps), and improve its usability. When such technologies are implemented, we will update this Privacy Policy and provide appropriate notice and consent mechanisms (such as a cookie banner) as required by applicable law.
-
Information from Third-Party Logins (Future): If we introduce the ability to log in via Social Networking Services in the future, we would only do so with your explicit consent. If you chose to use such a feature, we would receive certain information from those services (such as your name, email address, and profile picture, as permitted by your privacy settings on that third-party platform and as disclosed to you at the time of connection). This would be further explained in an updated policy.
III. How We Use Your Information
We use the personal information we collect for the purposes described below. We are committed to using your information responsibly, transparently, and in ways that support our goal of providing a positive, engaging, and safe experience on RISExSHINE. Consistent with our philosophy, your personal information is not used to train public artificial intelligence (AI) models by RISExSHINE.
-
To Provide, Operate, and Maintain Our Services:
-
We use your Account Registration Information (first and last name, email address, password, date of birth for age verification) to create and manage your account, authenticate you when you log in, and ensure you meet our age eligibility requirements.
-
We use your Usage Information/Activity Data and Technical/Device Information to deliver the core features of the App, such as providing you with video content, enabling you to participate in challenges, tracking your progress and any points earned, and ensuring the App functions correctly on your device.
-
We use information processed by our Content Management System to deliver content to you within the App.
-
-
To Communicate With You:
-
We use your email address and name to send you important service-related communications, such as updates about the Services, security alerts, information about your account (e.g., password resets), notifications about changes to our Terms or this Privacy Policy, and to respond to your support requests or feedback.
-
Marketing Communications (Future): We may wish to send you information about new features, content, or special offers from RISExSHINE in the future. We will only do so with your explicit prior consent (opt-in), which you can withdraw at any time.
-
-
To Improve, Analyze, and Develop Our Services:
-
We use Usage Information/Activity Data and Technical/Device Information (often aggregated or de-identified where possible) to understand how our users interact with the Alpha version of our Services. This helps us identify popular features, understand usage patterns, diagnose and fix bugs or performance issues, and make informed decisions about future service development and improvements.
-
-
To Maintain Safety, Security, and Integrity:
-
We use account information, technical information (such as IP addresses processed by our service providers for their operational needs), and usage data to monitor for and prevent fraudulent, abusive, or malicious activity, to protect the security of our Services and our users, and to investigate potential violations of our Terms of Service.
-
-
To Personalize Your Experience (Future - Opt-in):
-
In the future, we plan to offer features that allow you to opt-in to have your information (such as your Usage Information/Activity Data) used to customize and personalize your content recommendations and overall experience within RISExSHINE. We will provide specific information and seek your explicit consent before enabling such personalization for your account.
-
-
To Administer Rewards (Future):
-
When we introduce real-world rewards, we will use the necessary information (such as your registered email address or in-app mechanisms) to deliver these rewards (e.g., by providing QR codes for redemption). We are committed to collecting only the minimum information necessary for reward fulfillment.
-
-
To Comply with Legal Obligations:
-
We may use or disclose your personal information if we are required to do so by applicable law, court order, or other legal process, or if we have a good faith belief that such action is necessary to comply with legal obligations or to protect the rights, property, or safety of RISExSHINE, our users, or others.
-
-
Aggregated or De-identified Information:
-
We may aggregate or de-identify personal information so that it can no longer be used to identify you. We may use such aggregated or de-identified information for any lawful purpose, including for research, analytics, and to improve our Services, or share it with third parties for such purposes.
-
IV. How We Share Your Information
RISExSHINE is committed to not selling your personal information. We share your personal information only in the limited circumstances described below, with trusted third parties who assist us in operating our Services, or when legally required.
-
With Our Service Providers (Data Processors): We share personal information with third-party companies and individuals who perform services on our behalf to help us provide, operate, analyze, secure, and improve our Services (as detailed in Section II (B) 3). These service providers act as "data processors" on our behalf and are authorized to use your personal information only as necessary to provide these services to us and are contractually obligated to protect your information and use it only for the purposes for which it was disclosed. These include providers for marketing automation and analytics, user account management, backend hosting, video streaming, content delivery, and crash reporting. We take steps to ensure that our service providers adhere to strict data protection and security standards.
-
For Legal Reasons or to Protect Rights and Safety: We may access, preserve, and disclose your personal information if we believe in good faith that it is necessary to:
-
Comply with applicable laws, regulations, legal processes, or enforceable governmental requests.
-
Enforce our Terms of Service, including investigation of potential violations.
-
Detect, prevent, or otherwise address fraud, security, or technical issues.
-
Protect against harm to the rights, property, or safety of RISExSHINE, our users, our Content Creators, or the public as required or permitted by law.
-
-
In Connection with a Business Transfer: If RISExSHINE is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing due diligence, reorganization, bankruptcy, receivership, sale of all or a portion of our assets, or transition of service to another provider, your personal information may be shared or transferred as part of such a transaction, subject to standard confidentiality agreements and as permitted by applicable law. We will notify you of any such change in ownership or control of your personal information, or if it becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
-
With Your Explicit Consent (or a Parent's/Guardian's Consent for Minor Users): We may share your personal information with third parties (such as specific Content Creators or partners for unique experiences) for other purposes if we have obtained your explicit opt-in consent (or the opt-in consent of your parent or legal guardian if you are a Minor User) to do so. We will clearly explain what information will be shared and with whom at the time we seek your consent.
-
Aggregated or De-identified Information: We may share information that has been aggregated or de-identified so that it can no longer reasonably be used to identify an individual. We may share such information with third parties for various purposes, including for research and analytics, to improve our Services, or for industry analysis.
-
Information Shared with Other Users (Future Considerations): Currently, during our Alpha stage, your personal information (beyond any potential future username in a non-public context) is not directly shared by us with other users of the Services. If we introduce features in the future that would involve displaying some of your information to other users (e.g., a username in a community ranking or a public profile), we will provide you with notice, update this Privacy Policy, and implement appropriate controls or consent mechanisms as required.
-
Sharing with Parents/Guardians (of Minor Users): Parents or legal guardians of Minor Users may have the right to access, review, or request deletion of their child’s personal information, or to withdraw consent for further collection or use, in accordance with applicable law. We will provide mechanisms for verified parents/guardians to make such requests (see Section V: "Your Privacy Rights and Choices").
-
No Sale of Personal Information: RISExSHINE does not “sell” your personal information as that term is defined under applicable privacy laws (such as the California Consumer Privacy Act/California Privacy Rights Act or similar legislation). We do not exchange your personal information with third parties for monetary or other valuable consideration for their independent use.
V. Your Privacy Rights and Choices
RISExSHINE respects your privacy and is committed to providing you with control over your personal information. There may be legal or contractual reasons why we cannot immediately delete all of your data, and we will inform you if this is the case.
-
Right to Withdraw Consent: Where we rely on your consent to process your personal information, you have the right to withdraw your consent at any time. Withdrawing consent will not affect the lawfulness of processing based on consent before its withdrawal.
-
Right to Object to Processing (Primarily for UK/EEA Users): If you are in the UK or European Economic Area (EEA), you have the right to object to our processing of your personal information when that processing is based on our legitimate interests, or for direct marketing purposes (if applicable in the future).

VI. Data Security
RISExSHINE takes the security of your personal information seriously and is committed to implementing and maintaining reasonable administrative, physical, and technical safeguards designed to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of your personal information from loss, theft, misuse, and unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction.
The measures we implement include, but are not limited to: encryption (passwords are hashed, our primary operational database is encrypted-at-rest, and data in transit uses HTTPS/TLS), access controls, secure development practices, and requiring our third-party service providers to implement appropriate security measures.
While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. Therefore, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
Your role in maintaining security is also important. You are responsible for keeping your account password confidential and for securing the mobile device you use to access our Services. If you believe the security of your account or personal information has been compromised, please notify us immediately at contact@risexshine.com.
In the event of a data breach that is likely to result in a risk to your rights and freedoms, we will take steps to notify you and the relevant supervisory authorities as required by applicable law.
VII. Data Retention
RISExSHINE will retain your personal information only for as long as is necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected, as described in this Privacy Policy, including for the duration your account is active, and for a reasonable period thereafter as necessary to comply with our legal, tax, and regulatory obligations, resolve disputes, enforce our agreements, and for backup and archival purposes.
The criteria used to determine our retention periods include the length of time you have an active account, the purposes for which we collected the information, our legal and regulatory obligations, resolution of disputes, and the nature and sensitivity of the information.
Account Deletion: If you delete your account, we will take steps to delete your personal information from our active systems within a reasonable timeframe, subject to retention needs for legal obligations or backups (which are not actively processed).
Inactive Accounts: We reserve the right to terminate inactive accounts; personal information from such accounts will be handled per our deletion practices.
Aggregated or De-identified Information: We may retain and use aggregated or de-identified information indefinitely.
Our data retention practices are subject to review and may be updated.
VIII. Children's Privacy
RISExSHINE is committed to protecting the privacy of all our users, especially our younger users.
-
Users Under Thirteen (13) Years of Age: Our Services are not directed to, and are not intended to be used by, children under thirteen (13). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. We collect date of birth at registration to verify users meet our minimum age requirement. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will delete it. Parents/guardians who believe their under-13 child has provided PII should contact us at contact@risexshine.com.
-
Information Regarding Minor Users (Aged 13 to the Age of Majority): Minor Users are permitted to use our Services only if their parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agreed to our Terms of Service and this Privacy Policy on their behalf. The personal information we collect from Minor Users is as described in Section II and used and shared as described in Sections III and IV. We strive to limit collection and use to what is reasonably necessary, considering the best interests of our younger users. We aim to provide high privacy settings by default where appropriate, use clear language, and avoid uses detrimental to a Minor User's well-being, consistent with principles like those in the UK's Age Appropriate Design Code. Currently, our Alpha stage Services do not include features that publicly display Minor Users' personal information or enable direct user-to-user messaging.
-
Information for Parents and Legal Guardians: Your agreement to our Terms of Service and this Privacy Policy on a Minor User's behalf constitutes your consent to our collection, use, and disclosure of your child's personal information as described. During our Alpha stage, we rely on your attested consent provided through your child’s agreement to our terms. You have the right to review your child's personal information, request deletion, or refuse further collection/use by contacting our Privacy Officer at contact@risexshine.com (verification required). We encourage you to discuss online safety and this policy with your child.
IX. International Data Transfers
RISExSHINE is based in Canada, but your personal information may be processed by us or our third-party service providers in countries other than your country of residence, including primarily the United States, the United Kingdom, and countries within the European Union. These countries may have different data protection laws.
Specifically, our user account management (Clerk) and backend/database hosting (Render.com) process data in the United States. Our marketing automation (Bloomreach Engagement) processes data in the United Kingdom. Our video/image delivery (Bunny.net) uses data centers in the EU and United States. Our CMS CDN (Contentstack) uses servers in North America.
When your personal information is transferred to foreign jurisdictions, it may be subject to the laws of those jurisdictions. RISExSHINE takes steps to ensure your personal information is treated securely and in accordance with this Privacy Policy and applicable data protection laws. For transfers of UK/EEA personal information outside those regions, we rely on adequacy decisions or appropriate safeguards like Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) or International Data Transfer Agreements (IDTAs), often as part of Data Processing Agreements with our providers. For Canadian personal information transferred abroad, we use contractual or other means for comparable protection.
By using our Services, you (and your parent/legal guardian on your behalf, if you are a Minor User) acknowledge and, where required by applicable law, consent to these international transfers, storage, and processing. If you do not wish for your information to be transferred internationally, you should not use our Services.
X. Changes to This Privacy Policy
RISExSHINE may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the updated policy on our Site (www.risexshine.com) and within our App, updating the "Last Updated" date, and providing more prominent notice (e.g., email or in-app notification) for material changes, typically at least fourteen (14) days before they become effective (except for legal or new function changes).
We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically. Your continued use of our Services after changes become effective constitutes your acknowledgement and acceptance of the revised policy, subject to any requirement for your explicit consent for certain changes under applicable law. If you do not agree to changes, you must discontinue use of the Services.
